BASIL TWIST, Creative Collaborator, Puppeteer, originally from San Francisco, is a third generation puppeteer and the only American to have graduated from France’s École Supériure Nationale des Arets de la Marionnette, one of the world’s premiere puppetry training programs.   He has received Drama Desk Award nominations, UNIMA citations of Excellence, the Henry Hewes Design Award and an OBIE.  Twist was commissioned to create work for Lincoln Center (Petrushka) in 2000; was the Basil Twistunderwater puppetry consultant on the 3d Harry Potter film in 2003; and with a grant from The Asian Cultural Council and Creative Capital and a commission from The Japan Society, created the work Dogugaeshi in 2004.   Commissioned by the Houston Grand Opera and The Atlanta Opera he created a new Hansel & Gretel, which premiered in 2006 and 2007. Basil Twist is the director of The Dream Music Puppetry Program at HERE Arts Center.  He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and is a United States Artists Fellow.
